Angela Winbush

A much admired singer, songwriter, keyboardist and producer, Angela Winbush left an indelible mark on R&B throughout the 1980's and 1990's. Teaming in 1980 with singer Rene Moore as Rene & Angela, she enjoyed fast acclaim writing and producing a series of enduring hits including R&B chart-toppers “Save Your Love (For #1),” “Your Smile,” “I’ll Be Good” and “You Don’t Have To Cry.” At the same time, Winbush songs were charting for other artists, including Stephanie Mills’ dynamic cover of “I Have Learned To Respect The Power Of Love.” By the late 1980's, Winbush went solo and continued her streak of hits with Top 5’s “Angel,” “Run To Me” and “It’s The Real Thing.” She also became an active record producer, resurrecting the Isley Brothers’ career with the brilliant “Smooth Sailing,” “Spend The Night” and “Mission To Please” CD’s and working with such artists as Lalah Hathaway, Klymaxx, Sheena Easton and Janet Jackson. Winbush remains an active writer/producer as her classics enjoy new life through high profile hip-hop samples by Jay Z and The Notorious B.I.G. and the Spring 2000 smash cover of her “My First Love” by debut artist Avant.
