Teddy Randazzo
Teddy Randazzo was responsible for a treasure trove of classic hits from the 60’s and 70’s, including “Hurt So Bad” (Little Anthony & The Imperials, Linda Ronstadt), “It’s Gonna Take A Miracle” (Little Anthony, Deniece Williams), “Pretty Blue Eyes” (Steve Lawrence) and “Have You Looked Into Your Heart” (Jerry Vale). Randazzo, a prolific songwriter, also contributed hits and cuts by such artists as Frank Sinatra, Dionne Warwick, Joe Simon, Lesley Gore, the Royalettes and the Manhattans. Randazzo began his career in the 50’s, emerging as an artist in the style of such contemporaries as Paul Anka and Bobby Darren. A reputation for stellar repertoire and passionate performances stoked interest in his live shows and landed him numerous appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show as well as in such feature films as Rock Rock Rock and The Girl Can’t Help It. But his songwriting eventually eclipsed his work as an artist. After scoring initial hits with Brook Benton and Jose Feliciano, a chance introduction to New York lyricist Bobby Weinstein (also a Spirit songwriter) led to one of the most prolific and successful collaborations in pop music. The Randazzo/Weinstein team compiled more than a dozen charted career hits, including “Hurt So Bad,” “Going Out Of My Head,” “I’m On The Outside (Looking In)," “Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind” and “It’s Not The Same” for renowned pop/soul vocal group Little Anthony & The Imperials (2010 inductees into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame). Led by such standards as “Hurt So Bad” and “Going Out Of My Head,” their songs are among the most covered in the Pop era. Randazzo was inducted, along with Weinstein, into the Songwriters' Hall Of Fame in 2007.
