While Jay & The Techniques, a R&B/rock hybrid group from Philadelphia, managed several hits, their biggest was “Apples, Peaches, Pumpkin Pie,” an incredibly catchy song which was a ubiquitous radio presence in the summer of 1967 and proved to be the group’s only Top 10 single. Spirit represents this one and its follow-up hit, “Strawberry Shortcake,” both written by songwriter/producer Maurice Irby. “Apples, Peaches, Pumpkin Pie” was recently placed in an ongoing campaign for West Coast restaurant chain, Marie Callender’s.
