R&B dance artist, Rainy Davis, became “Queen of the Clubs” with the late 1980s release of her debut single, “Sweetheart.” Penned with producer/husband Pete Kessler, the successful single landed Davis a record deal with Columbia. Though subsequent releases never matched the success of the first, Mariah Carey’s decision to include a cover version of “Sweetheart” on her ‘The 1’s’ greatest hits collection brought the song back to life. Combined global sales of ‘The 1’s,’ along with inclusion on Jermaine Dupri’s multi-platinum ‘Life In 1472’ and Elektra’s ‘Best Of The Grammy’s’ have resulted in sales of more than ten million units.
