NEW YORK, NY (November 7, 2016) – Spirit Music Group has signed a publishing deal with singer/songwriter/producer Kenny Nolan, as announced today by David Renzer, Chairman, Spirit Music Group. On the heels of the signing, the Songwriters Hall of Fame has named Kenny Nolan on its slate of nominees to be elected for induction next year.
“Both as an artist and songwriter / producer Kenny Nolan has written some of the most memorable melodies and hits of recent time. We’re honored that he has chosen Spirit as his new music publishing home,” said David Renzer.
Singer-songwriter Kenny Nolan scored a No. 3 hit in 1976 with “I Like Dreamin’” the lead single from his eponymous debut album that spent twenty-seven weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and became a Gold record. The following year, he hit No. 20 with “Love’s Grown Deep.” With Bob Crewe he co-wrote such hits as Frankie Valli’s “My Eyes Adored You” and Labelle’s “Lady Marmalade.” As a producer, he also wrote and/or produced hits including Jim Gilstrap’s “Swing Your Daddy” and “Take Your Daddy for a Ride,” Dee Clark’s “Ride a Wild Horse,” and Linda Carr’s “High Wire,” and also wrote R&B hits including Tavares’ “A Penny for Your Thoughts,” and The Deele’s “Shoot ‘Em Up Movies”.
The deal with Spirit will encompass key songs from Nolan’s song catalog, including Atlantic Starr’s “Masterpiece,” All-4-One’s “A Better Man,” and Lakeside’s “Bullseye.”
