Having recorded more than fifty of their songs throughout her illustrious career, Barbra Streisand chose to honor Alan and Marilyn Bergman with a new double-album comprised entirely of their works.
‘What Matters Most: Barbra Streisand Sings The Lyrics Of Alan And Marilyn Bergman,’ out August 23, features ten of the duo’s songs which she’d never previously recorded, including the standards “Nice ‘N’ Easy,” “That Face,” and “So Many Stars.”
The set also features Bergmans’ songs she made famous, including “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers,” “What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life?”, and “Papa, Can You Hear Me” from ‘Yentl.’
Streisand has long counted Alan and Marilyn among her closest friends and creative collaborators, saying recently that they “have a remarkable gift for expressing affairs of the heart.”
The Bergmans have said, “To hear Barbra Streisand sing a song we’ve written is to know why we chose to become writers. She always gets exactly what we mean in a lyric. And more. Shadings, feelings, nuances emerge that never fail to surprise and thrill us.”
