John Phillips

Artist / Songwriter

Spirit is privileged to count among its first clients Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee, John Phillips, best known as primary songwriter and founder of The Mamas & Papas.

The catalog reflects Phillips’s prodigious post-1970 output, including a critically hailed solo effort, infamous collaborations with members of The Rolling Stones, and several collaborations with The Beach Boys, which yielded one of that group’s biggest hits, “Kokomo,” a #1 worldwide single featured on the soundtrack to the Tom Cruise movie, ‘Cocktail,’ as well as another Beach Boy track from the same period entitled, “Somewhere Near Japan.”

Also included is one of the Grateful Dead’s most popular cover songs, Phillips’s “Me And My Uncle,” and his acclaimed album with third wife, Geneviève Waïte, whose title track, “Love Is Coming Back,” was used as the end title in the recent wide release feature, ‘Just A Kiss.’

The catalog also contains Phillips’s score from the David Bowie film, ‘The Man Who Fell To Earth,’ as well as scores of unreleased material that is currently being remastered.
