Jimmy Sturr is the most popular modern day polka musician in the world. He has recorded more than 100 albums since the 1960s (recording for Vanguard until the early ’90s, when he switched to Rounder) and has received eighteen Grammy Awards, beating the record for most consecutive Grammys in any category.
Jimmy’s brand of polka borrowed from pop, rock, big band swing, country, Tex-Mex, and Cajun, and, as a result, took the music style mainstream. Beginning with the Rounder albums, Jimmy’s records featured an array of such high profile guests as Willie Nelson, Flaco Jimenez, The Oak Ridge Boys, Bela Fleck, Boots Randolph, and Charlie Daniels. His live show continues to draw tens of thousands across America and around the world, including seven sold out dates at Carnegie Hall and four at Lincoln Center.
Jimmy has written more than 250 songs, nearly all of them written by himself, and many of them polka standards. The deal was done in conjunction with veteran classical music publisher Lauren Keiser, who retains an ownership interest.
