He was raised in Colbert Heights, Alabama, near the musically rich Muscle Shoals area, an iconic region known for its deep-rooted influence in American music. Wood developed a passion for music early on, inspired by the legendary sounds of the area. He pursued his formal education at the University of North Alabama, where he earned a degree in Commercial Music, honing his skills in songwriting, production, and the business side of the industry.
In 2004, Wood made the pivotal move to Nashville, Tennessee, to devote himself full-time to songwriting and producing. Since then, he has built an impressive career working with some of country music’s most notable artists. His songs have been recorded by Lee Brice, Trace Adkins, Scotty McCreery, Lonestar, Tyler Braden, Delta Rae, Smithfield, and many more. His work has resonated with audiences, earning him recognition as a sought-after songwriter in the industry.
Among his notable cuts are “More Beer” and the title track “Hey World” from Lee Brice’s 2020 record, showcasing his ability to craft compelling and relatable songs. He also penned “Hey Whiskey,” a standout track by the duo Smithfield, which further cemented his reputation for heartfelt and evocative storytelling. One of his most significant successes to date is Tyler Braden’s “Try Losing One,” which reached the top spot on SiriusXM The Highway’s Top Thirty Countdown, demonstrating Wood’s knack for creating songs that deeply connect with listeners.
