Peter Rafelson, son of film and television producer Bob Rafelson (Easy Rider, Five Easy Pieces, The Monkees), was immersed in Hollywood’s creative energy from a young age. Surrounded by musicians and filmmakers, Rafelson was drawn to music, showcasing his skills as a talented keyboard player and emerging producer. Throughout the 1980s, his natural musical talent earned him the opportunity to work with a range of rising stars.

A pivotal moment in his career came through a friendship with Madonna, which led to their collaboration on the song “Open Your Heart”. The track would go on to become her fifth #1 pop hit, cementing Rafelson’s place in music history. His partnership with Jane Wiedlin of the Go-Go’s also bore fruit, resulting in the Top 10 hit “Rush Hour”.

In addition to these successes, Rafelson made significant contributions to Stevie Nicks, writing the poignant “Some Become Strangers”, and working with other renowned artists such as The Pointer Sisters, Sister Sledge, and Stephen Bishop. His work on “Open Your Heart” also brought him further recognition, as the song was prominently featured as the main title track for the Paramount film Crossroads.
