When Paul & Paula released their self-produced classic, “Hey Paula,” a song which perfectly evoked the innocence of early 1960s America, the song quickly rocketed to #1. The song’s author, Ray ‘Paul’ Hildebrand, knew he’d touched a chord with the nation’s youth and followed it up with the Top 10 smash “Young Lovers,” a pair of hits which launched a successful recording career that continued into the 1970s. Through the years, Spirit has landed Paul & Paula songs in period-piece film and television programs like ‘That ’70s Show’ and ‘Will & Grace.’ Recently, “Hey Paula” was featured in the Broadway musical, ‘Baby It’s You,’ and Spirit branding execs have been working with Ray to develop a music-driven feature film on the rise of Paul & Paula through the innocent and later turbulent 1960s.
